Every Wednesday, the ugly hug shares a playlist personally curated by an artist/band that we have been enjoying. This week we have a collection of songs put together by the Chicago-based band, Laceles
Bruised fruit can often be the sweetest, it goes without saying. And to the trio of Lydia Billie, Marlowe Shachory, and Sabrina Borg, there is a lot worth biting into. Back in the early fever dreams of summer, Laceles released their debut album Dreamsicle, offering a patchwork of mind-numbing feedback, fractured instrumentation, and melodies that fray at the seams with high stress. Each track fluctuates in immediacy, an old medicine passed down from generations of noise-fueled forebears to take whenever needed. There’s no need to stiff arm the pain alone. And it’s in these mixed amalgamations, the lyrical upheavals that work the flesh down to the bone, where the trio refuse to harness the chaos they have unleashed, as harsh or as glorious or as necessary as it may be.
