Late into July, Poolish left their home city of Chicago for a brief stint of Midwest shows. We gave them a camera to take on their journey.

Detroit, MI (Above)

Matthew: This was taken outside The Field Office, a very cool spot. The venue was in downtown Detroit and doubled as the office of a construction company. I think I wrote the setlist on the back of a building permit form. The musicians we played with were good players and chill folks. Motor City, baby. 

Cece: Awesome show. Still thinking about Feather Duster’s Neil Young cover.

Tyler: Orange wine + Miller light is a good combo give it a try.

Matthew: I fell in love with Nina Simone’s version of “I Shall Be Released” after hearing it on the Jukebox. Go listen to it. Good music at this spot, and I tried Stroh’s. Among the band, James and I are an undefeated pool duo, so Danny must’ve missed this one. 

Cece: As the worst pool player in the band, I stood safely behind the camera lens that night.

Matthew: Aren’t my bandmates just adorable?

Danny : yes

Cece: Adorable or incorrigible? The jury’s still out. 

Tyler: Danny found that flannel at the thrift store next to the venue and said I should buy it.

Matthew: A bar to bar uber where the driver urged us to play super smash bros and we got hella into it. 

Danny: this guy didn’t want us to get out of the car it was getting weird at a point 

Tyler: Styled on them as Sheik with some crazy throw combos.

Matthew: In the middle of our set at this all-ages sober DIY space, [Redacted] leaned into the mic and said, “Where’s the best place in Pittsburgh to drink tonight?” We got a good laugh out of that.

[Redacted]: I will never speak into a mic again. I thought I was going to get beat up by a bunch of 14 year olds.

[Redacted]: In my defense I started drinking before I knew the vibe.

Danny-  Druski Opium skit. This got us through the trip.

Tyler: I really liked Danny’s chicken Caesar wrap but was paranoid about the lettuce parasite. 

Matthew: I had chicken and waffles at a restaurant just out of frame to the left. Detroit has good food.

Cece: Looks like I was caught mid sneeze. God bless me and the Detroit style pizza we were on our way to eat.

Tyler: I took this one after one of the bars every uber driver hated us in Detroit but I thought we were well mannered.

Matthew: We definitely weren’t well mannered.

Danny : After we painted this mural we had to pose for a nice picture.

Tyler: Listened to some Link Wray Shack trilogy before the gig to get us pumped and I drank trilogy kombucha, think about it.

James: Danny and Tyler outside of Glow Hall in Kalamazoo. They almost got beat up

Tyler: James kept on trying to beat me up

Matthew: After the show we drove an hour and a half to Ann Arbor where we stayed with some friends. We played Lee Morgan’s Take Twelve on the drive and I think I was the only one who stayed awake for its entire duration. It was the right album.

Cece: Like most family fights, this one started after the consumption of many beers. 

Tyler: James and I had many Squables on the trip

Matthew: Tensions were high and questions like, “Who do you think would win in a fight?” were being thrown around, almost entirely between Tyler and James. Cece and I quietly placed our bets. The next day’s seven hour drive was rough, but somewhere along the Ohio Turnpike we stopped at a Culver’s and made up.
