Every Wednesday, the ugly hug shares a playlist personally curated by an artist/band that we have been enjoying. This week we have a collection of songs put together by the Pittsburgh-based band, Gina Gory.
Composed of Veronika Cloutier, Connaley Martin and Dylan Henricksen, Gina Gory craft soundscapes that make a game out of our spatial awareness. Through harboring textures and sonic manipulations, these tracks encroach even closer to the internal spites and common comforts that don’t often get to see the light of day. These instinctive feelings come to settle behind our eyeballs with Gina Gory’s new EP, Pictured You, released last week via Brussels-based label, Isengard. The guitar work still leaves its mark, but Gina Gory exhibit a revived delicacy, as yearning harmonies pool amongst loose melodies and a dripping drum machine to bring a new source of life to these shared laments and posthumous love songs.

About the playlist, the band shared;
“To be vague and mysterious, Gina Gory was our fourth bandmate that we’re attempting to find via songs, and our live performances are like alarms we hope she’ll come out of hiding to silence. But for the critics and rationalists, Gina Gory is a distilled version of all three of us— a beautiful loser. This playlist is our best attempt at conjuring her spirit.”
