Fruits of Heaven x ugly hug | Guest List vol. 115

Every Wednesday, the ugly hug shares a playlist personally curated by an artist/band that we have been enjoying. This week we have a collection of songs put together by the Baltimore-based band, Fruits of Heaven.

Fruits of Heaven is the new songwriting project of Ruby Mars (Plum Lovers, Whip Cream’s Fruit Quartet) and Flannery James (Naomi Halisca), whose collaboration is a testament to the movement of friendship and imagination. With only two singles out so far, the duo’s soundscapes linger like dreams staining the pillowcase, with each of their individual fixations creating something rich and worth holding on to. Back in May, Fruits of Heaven shared “Golden Ribbons”, a song indebted to the whims of time. Where colorful harmonies crawl over melodic lines and instrumentation leads with a warm anticipation, Fruits of Heaven follow the breeze that collects us all in gathered spirit.

About the playlist, the duo shared;

To be a part of a songwriting duo is a beautiful and rare privilege. One of the best things about it is just sharing/listening to music together.

This playlist kinda works how our songs come together – some of these tracks come from our separate worlds, and some of them are songs we’re jointly obsessed with.

The sequence goes disco -> twee soul -> vocal/country pop -> future sounds and ends with stoner spiritualism
