Every Wednesday, the ugly hug shares a playlist personally curated by an artist/band that we have been enjoying. This week we have a collection of songs put together by the Raleigh-based duo, Charlie Paso.

The beings that live in a Charlie Paso song are filled with a deliberate sense of belonging, scrappy and incredibly sincere in their own little ways. Back in May, guitarist Duncan McDonald and drummer Nina Sarsozo released their second LP, Pray Until Something Happens, which found the duo grappling with grief in the face of loss. Through ecstatic sounds, distortion like rotting wood and sweet melodies that find the cracks, Charlie Paso offers a collection that lingers in our ears with each melodic infatuation, each conscious sound that breaks the facade of daydreams and disassociation, brimming with life and all that we have come to understand of it.

About the playlist, the duo shared;

“These songs are an assortment of immediate influences that affected and guided us during our latest album cycle and some classics that we keep very close to the heart. An ode to melancholic optimism, primitivism, and regional splendor.”
